Beyond a 5 m² footprint and for installations lasting more than three months, a prior works declaration is generally required. Beyond 20 m², full planning permission may be. Protected areas impose further rules.

Elsewhere in Europe

Thresholds vary appreciably between countries, and often between municipalities. The prudent approach is to ask the planning department before ordering rather than after delivery.
